Manifesto for EmDash
and Punctuation

We write texts for humans by humans and commit to using the full range of punctuation. Through this work we have come to value these Punctuations:

• Em-Dashes to signal a break in the train of thoughts over the comma that smooths over these breaks
• En-Dashes to connect things related by distance over the hyphen, which implies fusion rather than span
• Hyphens to join word and form a compound over the space, as the space leaves it vague
• Semicolons to join two statements over the full stop that severs them.

While these marks are increasingly read as signals of LLM‑generated text, we value them precisely because they are not — they are the fingerprints of a thinking human writer.
